Fall Leaves, Western WA

After a nice day of mountain biking near Stanwood (without a camera) I had to return the next day with my wife for a pleasant day of hiking through the autumn forest. Interesting contrast - one day flying by the colorful leaves which combined sporty fun with beauty, then a day of much slower contemplation and shooting. Both very enjoyable.

Nice - handling the dynamic range of a sunny day in the western WA woods is not an easy undertaking. I find my eyes wandering back to the first image with the nicely composed view of the trail and the woods with the light filtering through the forest. The sun is bright but in this case it works for me. I have had more than a few images similar to that one that never made the cut when I tried to tame the light.

Amazing light, love the 1st two, and the last, not sure about the human element in the 1st, i find the second to be pretty spectacular, with its natural framing and diffused light.

Cheers!
