Interesting markings - are these members of the warbler family? They don't show up in my Western Bird books.

Not sure what the "proper" name s but we call them "woodpeckers" in my house.

OK. The beak looked shorter than I was expecting for a woodpecker - the markings look like a Hairy Woodpecker but the bill looks more like a Downy Woodpecker.

Hey Tom, woodpeckers! How cool! Growing up in Minnesota woodpeckers were one of my favorite birds because they were so different then any other birds.

This looks like a Downey Woodpecker to me, Tom. These are small woodpeckers and the only one that looks like it is a Hairy Woodpecker , which Alan correctly indicated, is considerably larger. The tuft where the beak and head meet is another indicator that it is a Downey Woodpecker.
