Flycatchers from SE Arizona

I agree with Alan, what an impressive collection! Truly impressive!

The most colorful ones are my favorites, the Western and Vermillion Flycatchers.

I know this is a silly question, and perhaps should be obvious from their names, but are they named Flycatchers because they catch and eat flys? I had never really thought of birds eating anything but worms or bird seed I think. I know it's hard to swat a fly, so to catch a fly? That's impressive.

Yes, Jim

Flying insects are these birds main but not only food source. Think swallows and swifts also which eat flying insects on the wing so to speak.

thanks for liking the images!
