Frozen Savage

A few more images from Sunday. The warmer weather has pushed in, tomorrow will be a high of 69 and it is 59 deg at 9:40pm. Hard to believe we were below freezing for 2 solid weeks. But here are some fruits of my outing.

From Savage Falls, above, at and below. This is part of the South Cumberland State Park in TN.

I love the first one - that's a serious freeze to be able to put that much of an ice cap on those falls. The second one makes me want to reach for my 100-400mm to snoop around in the ice falls but it looks like these are thawing at this point. The last one is an interesting view of the ice downstream - and your shadow :)

Hey John,

#2 would be favorite if only the edge of that foreground rock didn't line up with the edge of the left waterfall. It's a small thing but visually I would like a break between those 2 edges in having them offset, even if it's just a slight bit more. #1 is pretty cool too, I think I would darken the left side where the sunlight is hitting a bit, I think I would darken it just a bit to match the rest of the photo which seems to be in a shadow. Again a small thing, but I think it would help it. And #3, I like your selfie! It's always cool to do a shot like that, I know I like getting my shadow in my shots once in a while.

Overall the ice in these is so cool looking, we have nothing at all going on like that out here.

Whooops! Didn't even see my shadow. Well, I will have to try a crop and see if that works. Thank you for pointing that out!

Thank you Zeph and Jim.

Jim, thank you for the suggestions. The 2nd image, not a falls on the left but I guess a leak in the rock crevices slowly building up the ice wall. Nevertheless, that rock has always played havoc on me compositionally here.

I always like the look of frozen waterfalls. For me the first is the best as it has great interest all the way through. Like others have noted, the rock lining up with the waterfall hurts the second, along with the rest of the foreground ice not being as interesting as the details in the first image. The shadows and mixed light are a challenge for the third. I do really like the shapes and details in it though.
