Generative Credits?

I just updated Photoshop and Bridge today and when I went to use Generative Fill on an image, I notice it had a popup about Generative Credits. And that each Generative action takes 1 credit.

I am not sure if my plan has the unlimited Credits or not, but I have to say this really makes me not very happy with Adobe. Their greedy money hungry ways have maybe gone a step too far for me.

I have seen that notice but so far I have not been prompted to cough up $$ to get my result.

This is a bad sign but nowhere near what has happened over at Topaz. They now want $30/month for PhotoAI and GigapixelAI and past ownership isn't relevant. I didn't request any new upgrade and haven't loaded one but when I tried using PhotoAI a week or so back I got a pop-up window demanding I subscribe in order to use the tool. I have now deleted PhotoAI and GigapixelAI.

Wow! That's really bad about Topaz. It's a shame how greedy companies are.

With Photoshop, I primarily just use the Content Aware Fill to clean up an image that might have junk in it. But the Generative fill has been useful once in a while. But I think I will keep the Content Aware Fill as my main fill.

I decided to see if I could acquire a clue what was going on with Adobe and it doesn't sound all that bad for still photo usage. We get 500 credits per month as part of the Adobe Photography plan and using it for generative fill uses one credit so nothing to sweat there at all. Video is on another planet for how much it can use FWIW.

There is an Adobe FAQ for the credits:

Thanks Alan.

So yeah, I don't use anywhere near 500 credits a month. It just depends, maybe 40 or 50 at max? Some months none.

Video would be a pain. I guess there goes my plan to get rich by creating Deepfake AI Video's. o_O

LOL I might need to! I need to double check how many I have.
I checked mine - I have 500 credits left out of 500 credits this month which is almost over :p

FWIW - the unused credits don't roll over into the new month. You just lose them and get a new allotment for the next month.

The credits are only needed when you have the setting for offloading the AI stuff to the cloud. If you are doing it locally on your device you don’t use the credits. Of course the cloud stuff has more features and can do for higher res. For simple things like fill and remove for small areas the device based stuff is more than adequate.

Oh really? I didn't see that at all. I hate using the cloud, and never use it for Photoshop. I would never use 500 credits in a month anyway, and since I do everything locally I guess it's nothing to worry about.

Jim, you should try it. It's amazing.

I have never felt the need to use the cloud. It's not worrying about someone somehow stealing my photography from the cloud, as I don't think there is any real financial value in my photography. But I just prefer to do everything locally. Maybe I am just too much of a curmudgeon? :)

I'm not referring to storing images there, but rather that the regenerative fill feature is an internet based thing. Just try it and see. No risk to your work.

I have been using the Generative Fill.

My first go to is still Content Aware Fill, but in areas with lot's of textures, or buildings, I do use the Generative Fill. Initially I was discussing that it's sad that Adobe is making it something we have to pay for. Alan found that we get 500 credits a month with our plans, so I was saying that I might use the Generative Fill 30 to 40 times a month, never 500. So I am safe and don't have to worry about running out of credits.
