Glorious Morning

Glorious Morning is from my Naturally Abstract collection and was composed at Hopeland Gardens in Aiken, SC. I have wanted to capture a morning glory for several years now, but they can be quite difficult to frame in a way that is aesthetically pleasing. If you place the focal point on the stigma (or even deeper into the center of the flower) while composing straight down into it, the zone of sharpness is too shallow to hold details in the petals. So, you end up with a nice stigma surrounded by simple colors. Unless you are going to employ focus stacking, you may need to find a better solution. When I realized that I could work the camera around to an angle that would keep details in the stigma and the petals, I knew I had to create a composition that featured it. My artistic vision was to position the stigma in such a way that it appeared to be some type of a brilliant source of light that had lit the surrounding area while shooting rays out in all directions.

The pistil looks like it could be a tiny mushroom cloud exploding in a burst of colors! Brilliant colors & detail, Steven. Great job.
I like Monica's description of the pistil. Excellent lighting for this capture.
Your best to date. Love it.
Very nice Steven. Great colors and the look of light emanating from the flower.
What a glorious image!
All,
Thank you for looking and the very kind words. :)
