Glow on the Dome

This shot is a reprise of an earlier visit. On this more recent visit Half Dome definitely lit up. Not much else in the sky to compliment it though. Wasn't sure at first but the reflection was the right compliment and a close look at the shadows & trees did too.

Taken with Mamiya 7 on Ektar, 50mm

The reflection looks great Dan, but the sky and Half Dome itself are overexposed. With 2+ stops difference between the sky and a reflection I think with shooting film you really have to use a 2 stop ND grad to pull the exposure down on the sky. What you did here is pretty common though, the reflection always seems to get exposed properly with the sky then being over exposed.

If you don't have a 2 stop Grad ND, then be sure to expose for the sky, let the reflection go dark and then use shadow recovery and some noise reduction on the reflection later. Or you could go the hard way and just expose for the sky and then for the reflection. After scanning the negs, you can blend them together in Photoshop.

I definitely like the composition and especially the nice curve to the river and the reflection but have to agree with Jim about the Dome and the sky.

I like the image...the Dome is fixable.
