Goblin Valley (part 1)

Goblin Valley State Park in Utah is a long time favorite of mine. Situated near the southern end of the San Rafael Swell, it is surrounded by (my opinion) the most beautiful desert scenery anywhere. And this little state park has a tiny campground that makes it a great base camp for the area, provided you plan and reserve far in advance. I've camped here many times over the past 35 years and seen it go from an unknown location where I was the only one in the whole campground to the full every night hot spot it is now.

Sweet shots. Fully agree this is one of the better places to call home base for explorations along the east side of the San Rafael Reef formation.

I have stayed at this park many times in the distant past (70's and 80's) but more recent efforts to visit haven't worked out.

This was the creepiest state park I’ve visited. I was walking amongst the goblins with no one around and thought I heard movement. I looked to my left and saw a face.

I didn’t stay there long lol

Oh man... Part 1? That's so cool, I look forward to more parts.

I agree, Goblin Valley has been a favorite of mine for years! It has gotten more crowded for sure, I miss the days of no one else there.

It's funny, in all of the years I have gone there, I don't think that I have every camped in the campground there. When I go it's primarily to shoot the night sky, so I am up and awake all night with that, so I technically never actually have camped or slept there.

My favorites of these is #1 and 3. You got some really great light in all of these.

Another interesting thing to note on Goblin Valley, like most state parks in Utah, you can fly a drone there for only $5 a day. It's 2 minutes to fill out the permit while you are there, hand over $5, and you are good to go. I am not a huge fan of drones flying and buzzing all around, but if I see no one else around, it's a fun way to get some drone video or photos.
