Great Horned Owl

I drove up north today with my son to see my folks and decided to stop by a state park just to see if I could find anything worth shooting. Boy am I glad I did. The only reason I saw this is because someone walking in front of me happened to see this owl. I am definitely going to walk slower and start looking in the trees more. The camouflage is amazing.

Also it was great to see my 10 year old start taking a interest in taking pictures. Here he is taking pictures of eagles that were VERY far away.

Nice shot - you are right about the way they can blend into their environment.

I am a bit jealous about what kind of glass that kid getting to play with. I thought I was styling with a twin lens reflex when I was his age.

It’s amazing how camoflauged the owl is. And that’s a cool shot catching your son with the camera too. I am wondering if the 1.4 extender is worth getting for the 150-600mm? I have read good things about it.

This was just across from the visitors center on the boardwalk. Less than 100 yards from my car. I could not believe it.

The 1.4 does interest me. I’ve read some mixed reviews. Like it’s great on their 70-200, but not so much on the 150-600.
