If you are quiet and observant, you never know what kind of birds might visit in addition to the more commonly photographed species. All birds are not the same, although from a distance they may appear that way. Around 10,000 feet up in the La Sals, just sitting quietly and this guy stopped by for a visit.

Beautiful shot, and great find, after 30 years of bird watching, I have never seen this species. You have a great pose and background here.

Is this possibly a juvenile? My bird books show less of the fluffy effect with the feathers and especially the head. Great catch!

Wonderful pic of a rarity, I gather. Congratulations! Would I be amiss in wondering if the image could be tightened a bit without doing damage? I might crop in a bit from the upper right and make the bird a bit closer to the rule of thirds and make the bird bigger in the image without losing the wonderful perch and still show as much of his environment.

Hey Craig,

Wow! I know nothing about birds, but this sure looks cool! What an odd looking bird to have found in Utah.
