Half a Moon - 2021/01/20

Seeing Chucks awesome moon photos encouraged me to get out and try and shoot the moon in video and learn how to process that video. Chuck helped a lot in helping me figure out the ins and outs of AutoStakkert and Registax. AutoStakkert for taking the Video and it pulls each frame out of the video and then aligns and stacks them, outputting it as a tiff that then can be taken into Registax for sharpening, and then on to Photoshop for processing.

Hopefully this looks decent, I lost half of the moon somehow, but the half I have left I think looks pretty good, but not sure how good. :)

All comments are welcome,

Jim

Pretty good Jim. If we ever get some clear sky's I should try this.
You should give it a try Ben. We have rain coming, but I might try again tonight m a few days, and the full moon is coming on Wednesday, so I am trying to think of where I might want to shoot it.

Looks very good Jim. That work flow that Chuck has laid out for you is key to squeezing out all the detail and contrast available. It is easy to overdo the sharpening in Registax, but I think you struck a good balance on your version here.

Very nice result Jim. If I get a clear night one of the next few days, will try that.

Ben, if you get that 800, I'd be interested in how it works for moon shots as well as wildlife. The price and weight are nice, not sure how good f11 will work. With R5, going with high ISO is not much of a concern though.
