Has anybody caught the Leonard yet ?

Hi folks. The Leonard is coming, I am keeping an eye on the news & hope to catch it, with any luck, the Leonard should get to 2.0 brightness, has anybody located it yet from North America yet ?

Yes, Jim, it's in the Eastern sky, according to the SkyLive, I have also found a photo taken by someone on Saturday with an 8 inch Celestron, it's coming into shape nicely.


Given the unpredictable weather, I am heading out this weekend to check it out.

I am going to give it a try too I hope. Weather here in the Colorado area is a bit more dicey. When I shot Neowise, almost all of mine were with the camera just on the tripod, no tracking. I have to think back, or go look back at my old threads on Neowise to see how I had captured it in terms of settings for the camera.

Perhaps with the tracker, having it set for the stars like normal, but doing faster shutter speeds (like in the 30 second range) will keep the stars sharp and the comet sharp? The comet is moving at a different speed then the stars, so that's the issue if you use a tracker.

Jim, around the Denver area, there is a nice weather window on both Friday & Saturday morning; clouds will move in around Sunday, so, good luck.

OTOH, I heard there is still no snow in Colorado so far this year, weird weather.

Thanks Oliver. Weird weather for sure. Anywhere around Denver is too bright. So of my other go to places in Northern Colorado are showing too much wind and passing clouds. (I plan on doing Deep Space Astro). So right now, it looks like right after i get done watching my Grandsons music recital at 2pm on Saturday, I will be heading to Grand Junction. I am not sure where exactly, but they are showing clear skies and almost no wind.
