I love Winter

For the past many years, I have been visiting the western-side routes into the Sierra Nevada only in the winter time. In fact, I really only want to be there for the freshest snowfall, usually while it is falling and the next couple of days. Occasionally I am that lucky. Here is a typical scene in Sequoia Nat'l Park during one of those snowfalls. As usual, the contrast between regular pines and those giant Sequoia's is outstanding.

Yup - fresh and still clean snow is beautiful and your scene depicts it well. The contrasts of colors between the big guys and the little pines is a great combination.

Hey Jeffrey,

I am with you in the fresh snow! That’s when I try to time my winter trips when possible. There is nothing like having ones tire tracks be the first ones on fresh snow as driving in.

This is a super cool shot! Love the contrast with the white and dark reds.

Hi Jeffrey,

You reminded me that I need to get up to Sequoia during the winter. You've managed to show an image that seems like it is typical, but is rare to witness in person. The cinnamon bark color contrasted against the snowy green is truly exceptional.

There are many reasons why Fall and Winter are IMO, the best time to be a photographer:
Less people
Defused light
Storms and the after-math
The sun comes up later
Less people, yup...

Wonderful image Jeffrey, large trees are difficult to photograph, you really caught the essence of the forest.

The fresh snow and difference of size in the trees both brings out the detail in the pines and gives a sense of intimacy and quiet. Those sequoias have a sentience that's hard to capture, but I think you've done it here - very nice work!
