Ice Forming, Lake 22

I made the hike up to Lake 22 on a cold fall day and didn't expect much photo wise, but brought my NEX-7 any who. Sure glad I did - the ice was forming as I hiked around the lake so I happily spent much more time taking pictures than I expected. This was a few years ago and I was lucky to have the whole trail & lake to myself on this cold day (has since become very popular and so crowded parking is hard to find by afternoon).

A fascinating collection of images, Jim. I'd go back up there and play around with the ice fractals if I could.

Hey Jim,

What really sweet looking shots! I have been trying to pick a favorite between #1, 2 and 3 but just can't. They are all different and cool in their own rights. The look of #4 is also the making of a very abstract image.

I agree with Jeffrey, that would be a great place to go back and revisit.

Thanks for all the comments. I've revisited this and many of the lakes round here, but in all my years this was the only time I saw this phenomena, which often happens on a single fall day over a relatively short period of time. I'd imagine by the next day the lake was pretty much frozen over and snow was starting to blow over it. I'd love to be there again with my A7rII and 90mm macro in hand.

Jim - I had seen this a while back, this is a great collection of fractals with stunning detail, I get lost in these and each one holds my interest. Great Art should be printed...
