Kirkjufellsfoss Sunset

I had seen enough photos of this Icelandic icon that I wasn't completely enthusiastic about making the drive to see it. Nevertheless, I made the trek and was rewarded with a wonderful sunset that just kept going. So now you get yet another photo of Kirkjufellsfoss (church mountain waterfall)

Any thoughts are welcome

Yes, this scene shows up on my TV most times as a Roku screensaver. As a landscape photographer, one has to decide whether to shoot places that are often shot. Of course, the places that are often shot are usually shot often for a reason--they are gorgeous! Also, they are usually fairly accessible. Still, I would not turn down an opportunity to shoot tunnel view, for example. Especially for waterfalls, no two days are ever quite the same. The water levels are different, the light is different, and here I don't recall seeing such a pretty sunset combined with the waterfall and mountain. This is well done and a worthy image. Thank you for sharing.

Hey Kyle,

One can not get enough photos of this cool spot! :)

I know when I can every get there, I will be posting me... o_O

I like this, very nice work on it. Now your composition seems a bit different then most? I don't recall (unless I am forgetting) that pour off from that flat rock in the foreground in other peoples shots? Is that different? Or is my memory shot to pieces?

As with the above responses - no way I am tired of seeing the scene. You got a very nice keeper from your visit.

I'd certainly make a point of shooting it myself if I were there and would probably post it too

This is great. If you never wanted to take shots of places that were overdone, you would have a hard time finding much. For me the fact that they are mine is enough to justify it.

I completely agree - and I'm definitely not a snob about shooting icons - they are iconic for a reason. Thanks a lot!

Can't say I'm tired of this and through your vision it's stunning...
Thanks a lot Zeph!

I think I did get closer to the falls than most. I really wanted to emphasize the water so I got as close as I could. You see lots of photos with a wider angle shot from higher up to show a broader view of the whole scene. I've heard reports that they added some more barriers over the summer. I don't know if that was just for the high season or if they are a permanent thing.

I couldn't go all the way to Iceland and skip this one. Thanks!

Agree with all . . . I never tire of seeing how everyone photographs an iconic scene. And this is beautiful.
Thank you Bob

Thanks Ben - as noted above I agree. To a large degree photography is my excuse to travel to beautiful places and try see them in great light. My photos are my memories. I don't really care if it has already been done and done better.

Beautiful image.
Thanks Pete

Have not seen much of this comp. Must be a hike compared to where I see everyone else shooting it. Great shot.
Thanks Tom. It's actually a fairly small area and just takes a little extra effort to find this spot. Most people simply hang out at the more common locations.

Love that light, and looks like a different angle, good job!
Thanks - I was aiming for something a little different and wanted to emphasize the falls.

No matter how many times a see a well executed KF pic, it never gets tiring. It is so awesome when done right, and you've added to the doing it right category.
