Late in the Dry Season

This is an early fall view of Mirror Lake just below Crown Point in the Columbia River Gorge just before the rainy season kicked in. By mid December the water level rises to submerge all of the orange tinted grasses flanking the water as seen here. Last fall was rather lackluster for brilliant colors compared to the previous year's intense hues. Single frame at 24mm.

Good one Alan. I have briefly thought about fall colors, but I am knee deep in alpine level wildflowers in the mountains in Colorado.

It's crazy that spring comes to the mountains at a time where summer is about to end for you low landers. ;)

Thanks Jim - I was wishfully thinking about the end of summer with this one since are are now at what is the driest day of the year up here. According to our local weatherdroids July 27th is the one day of the year where we are least likely to get rained on with only a few days in recorded weather history where even a trace amount has been measured.

Thanks Oliver - this is the spot I described to you at lunch last week right below where you took your students the day before. Farmer's Almanac just came out with their fall predictions and I hope they are right - warm and wet for us in the Pacific NW which would be great for good fall colors.
