Little Corona

Yesterday late afternoon as I was trail running in the hills above Newport, I saw that despite the forecast for clear skies that there was some clouds along the horizon. So I headed to Little Corona in Corona Del Mar which is just a hop skip and a jump away from where I was running just before the sun was setting.

This is the first one I got, and it was a first time out shooting with my new to me used D610 along with a 24-85mm lens that will be my Jeep camera that stays full time in my Jeep. The D610 looks brand new, so I am pretty jazzed to have an emergency camera of that caliber with me at all times.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

You had a nice sunset to try this out out on which always helps too. Looks like a tiny slice of backlit splash just behind the low rocks. Did you tip the pelican for his modeling work? :)

Looks like a nice camera to have along as a backup. I carry my old Canon 6D as a backup camera body but I don't leave it in my vehicles other than when I am on a trip.

Hey Jim,

I really like the pelican's position. The sun's position at the edge draws my eye away from the pelican though. Maybe crop off the right hand rock?

Thanks Alan. When I am traveling I will always have my good cameras, so that isn’t an issue. For me, I always find things to shoot, or am often down at the beach running, etc where I wasn’t planning to shoot, but either the conditions or something caught my eye and now I do want to shoot. So this will always stay in my Jeep whether I am running to the grocery store or going to the movies, because you just never know where something cool to capture pops up.

Good plan. I am never really in the same vehicle often enough for that. My Tacoma is 2 1/2 years old and has an almighty 10,000 miles on it. My iPhone is always in my pocket however.....

Thanks Tim, I guess I hadn’t looked at the pelican as a main focal point which is why included the sun like that. I wonder how tight I can crop this as I am getting more attracted to the pelican the more I look at it.
