M20 Trifid Nebula

I didn't get enough time on this. On this particular day 2 months ago it was rising not too long before Sunrise, so an hour was all I could get before it got too bright.

I captured this in Chiricahua National Monument in Arizona. I would say it was like Bortle 1 skies, and I had to do a lot of star reduction on this as the stars were so bright it was like you could touch them.

30 Lights @ 120 secs with Optolong L-Quad filter
30 Flats
30 Dark Flats

ASI2600mc Pro - Astro Camera
Askar Fra500 - Scope
iOptron Gem28 - Mount
ZWO EAF
ASIAir Pro - Astro Controller
Processed in Pixinsight
BlurXterminator
NoiseXterminator
StarXterminator
Finished in Photoshop

Awesome.. one of my favorites. I actually saw color in this nebula viewing it through a 36” f/5 telescope. Nice photo

Thanks Todd! It's pretty bright, so I am not too surprised you saw color. That's a huge scope!

That is very nice! Great color, detail, stars and background! In my area (MA) this only gets to 25deg. How high does it rise in AZ?

Thanks John!

I am not sure the exact degree but it is up pretty high in the night sky for most of the night. So it's a great target to spend a lot of time on in the South.

Great pic! Another south facing target I can’t get sadly. You’ve done a brilliant job with yours 👏

Great job - this is a target that exceeded my expectations when I shot it, and you have also gotten a wonderful result here. Like the post processing too - nice details and wonderfully colored but natural looking stars. One of your best I feel.
