Mariposa Grove of Sequoias

I visited the Mariposa Grove of Sequoias when I was in Yosemite earlier this week. I had a fun time, the light was mostly cloudy with just periodic sunlight so it was pretty perfect conditions.

Thanks Ben. Yeah, they have some pretty big trees there. Sequoia NP has bigger I think, but these are still really good sized.

One of the things I liked in this composition was the smaller trees in the foreground to help provide a little scale.

I like the scene and the light - but I wish you hadn't cut off the bottoms of the roots on the big tree on the right. Any chance you shot that just a bit wider to include the base of those roots?

Thanks Alan. There was a border of rocks there that totally looked horrible, so yeah I had to do the best I could and crop the rocks out.

Hey Kyle, glad you liked it. I don't like the restoration and changes there, but it's for the best in the long term health of the area. It's just a pain to photograph around in some areas.

Nicely done Jim. I haven’t been to the grove since it re-opened. Was going to take a look this week, but was hoping there’d be a little color left this week in the valley instead.
