Maroon Bells without the Bells

I enjoy shooting the Maroon Bells despite the crowds that gather there. But I also like getting back behind the lake and shooting compositions that don't include the Bells. I have found that there are ton's of other great shots, it just requires hiking a little bit.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

In images like this you can't avoid the yellow glow everywhere. You can add some blue if you want the boles to come out white but there is also something to be said about shooting it the way the camera sees it rather than the way your brain compensates for the yellows everywhere.

Maybe, but the tree trunks should be more white, so I think the color balance is a bit off. The problem is also that you loose detail in foilage.

Hi Jim,

I like the yellow appearing to reflect, and the pine trees break up the brightness beautifully. The aspen bark looks a little bit warm, but overall I really like it.

Wow, yellow overload! A bit too strong for my taste, but a nice composition.

Thanks Guys! Interesting thoughts on the Yellow. This was shot on an overcast day, and inside a yellow canopy of Aspen, so the white bark was seeming to reflect the yellow as the light source was pretty yellow at that point. I do agree that there is some detail lost especially in the background with so much yellow. Hmmm.... interesting thoughts.
