Midnight Tranquility

Midnight Tranquility.jpg

When a quiet, wind-free night suddenly fills in with the Aurora light, my internal state of calmness rapidly changes. The inflow of excitement kicks in bringing a nervous and chaotic search for composition. Only after the first shot of adrenaline fades away, I can calm down and move into my internal Zen space. Then, I can internalize the experience to put together all the moving parts and frame the shot.

Shot with Nikon D810 and Nikon at 35mm f 2.0 ISO 800 10 sec plus additional shot for sharpness in the foreground. Minimal raw adjustments.

Thanks a lot! It was an amazing Aurora night. I have so many different shots of this composition with different displays of Aurora that I could provide custom and unique photo for at least 20 people. Last time such Aurora displays over Mt. Asgard I had in 2015. Every year is different there and Aurora is either near Mt. Thor or over the Mt. Asgard. I have one location in that trek that we do there that I am still waiting for Aurora. I have all the details worked out and have been unlucky with Aurora. It has never appeared over that mountain (in 5 years). I have a photo from that location with a similar but not the same composition during daylight. I took it in 2016.

Posting it here for reference.
The glacier that you see is called Turner Glacier. It is scary to watch how quickly it melts. Both photos are minimally adjusted. I added technical pedigree to Aurora shot above.

Great images, very fun to see them both to juxtapose the two, either is a truly winning shot. But of course, the aurora shot is truly magnificent!
