It's been so long since I tried to photograph the moon with a regular-old camera, and I've only recently come to the realisation that using video mode to capture hundreds of frames is the way to go to achieve greater clarity and less noise, so last night I trotted out the old tripod and my EOS R5 with a 100-400mm lens (with 2x extender) and waited for dark to descend. When it did, not only was the moon shining very clearly, but not far away was Jupiter, so I thought I'd give it a go to photograph them together. This is the result. To be fair, I compressed space a bit to bring them closer together in a smaller frame, but I think that's more of a venal sin than a cardinal one. I'm pleased with how it turned out in any event, especially with the fact that the stripes are even visible on Jupiter.

Wow - I am impressed with this result and how you got it. So this is like a 1 second video?
Thank you! No, it's quite a bit longer than a second; I think I shot for around a minute (it was over 2300 frames, of which I stacked the best 30%--and the quality graph was the nicest I've ever seen in Autostakkert!).

Wow James! Not only does the moon look really nice, but Jupiter looks pretty good. I think I pick out some patterns on it? No matter it is, Jupiter really looks very cool.

Almost took my Nikon out with the 150-600mm tonight to do the same thing as you. But I am packing up my 4Runner to head to my daughters for a month, so I had to stay focused. I am glad you did it instead of just think about doing it like I did. :)
