Monumental NY in B&W

Here it is. I got everything put away from the trip, ate half my dinner (still have to cook the other half) and mixed in a little photo processing.

Just darkening the sky made it look really contrived, so I lightened the fore & mid ground except for the snow & I think that's balanced better.

My initial thought was that I was going to prefer the color. I don't. This works really well for this scene and I really like what you did with this one.

Hey Monika, like Alan, this worked a lot better then I thought. I think I still prefer the color version, but this does look really nice. What happens if you work the sky a bit more and darken it to add some mood?

I prefer the original sky. The darker version takes away some of the focus on the snow patch and the young tumbleweeds down in front and I liked the original balance in the presented contrasts.

At one point I had the sky darker & didn't like it for that reason, too.

Very nice. I like 'em both, but slight nod to the second, but I'm a sucker for contrast and dramatic sky. Playing around with a great shot like this in post is one of my great pleasures in modern photography.
