Moon 1-19-21 closeup

Wow! I was wondering if you could get closeups. That is incredible detail! We have 40 mile an hour winds and clouds here, so there is no capturing the moon over on the west coast. I am glad you had clear skies there.

What scope are you using? Do you use any filters for this?

I'm using the Takahashi FSQ106EDIII. I cropped to a region of interest of 640x480 and took 1500 frames. After stacking in Autostakkert and sharpening in registax I used photoshop for curves. I'm trying out Topaz gigapixel AI to resize. It seem to be working pretty good. A 4" refractor telescope only has so much resolving power. Here is a pic taken with the Celestron 9.25 edge with a 2.5 extender making it 5875mm telephoto lens. I can get a lot closer with finer detail. The larger the scope the better but steadiness in the atmosphere is the most important. This was taken with very good seeing. This is a mono image with a Luminance filter.

Phenomenal stuff. I especially like the 2nd one, I'm a sucker for those smooth seas and the lighting on one of those regions right near the terminator really makes that shot for me.
