Morning Glory Part 2

This is from south of Bisti Badlands in New Mexico last year, the back story for this image is described in this previous thread. http://www.focalworld.com/index.php?threads/morning-glory.599/

It was an exhilarating sunrise, and actually one in which I am now glad I was a bit late getting to the main area of hoodoos as I would still have never shot this exact location, which in it's own right is pretty cool I think.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

Gorgeous light and reflections here Jim, you have the Bisti area nailed.
Hey Ben,

Thanks so much! It's an awesome area to explore. Technically this wouldn't be Bisti, but I am not one for publically naming these more sensitive locations. So to say this is in the Bisti area is accurate enough for people to get an idea of where it was.

The colors seem a bit over the top for me, but what a beautiful place!
Maybe you could have tried a lower standpoint to bring the hoodoo on the left in front of the sky to make it more prominent. As it is, it's a bit lost in the background when it could be the main character of the picture.

Good idea on moving closer to that hoodoo, I could have tried it. The light was changing fast, the color was crazy, but doesn't last forever is my excuse. My main thing was I wasn't in the area I had hoped to have shot sunrise at, so this area was a bit unknown to me, hence the looking quick and setting up and shooting before the color faded.

As for the colors, what you see in the sky is very accurate, it just took off like crazy blowing up a huge portion of the sky. In the ground layer I would have coaxed some of the colors out a bit by darkening the shadows a bit and brightening up the lit up area a bit more. It was a morning where you have to be careful when processing as almost any addition of contrast gets those reds/pinks to blow out the red channel.
