Mother Nature Made Me Do It

I mentioned to Jim yesterday that as long as Mother Nature kept dishing up colorful sunsets I would keep shooting them and last night turned out to be even better than the evening before. We do have a bit of wildfire smoke filtering through the Gorge from a fire down near Redmond Oregon that juiced up the colors last night and is visible just above the horizon. Not too bad to breathe but enough to obscure views of the Cascade peaks. The drone gimbal is at 14º above level so some of the arching of the clouds at the top of the panorama is likely due to lens distortion. Four panels at 24mm. Best viewed on a large screen.

Even if it's lens distortion, it's super cool. And when it works in your favor I would take it! Often lens distortion is a pain, but in this case it would work.

It's cool in this one seeing the arch completely being anchored on both sides.

Thanks Jim - I did try some shots with the gimbal at 0º but that cuts out a lot of the clouds and leaves the distant hills just above center in the frame so not how I wanted to frame the scene. I promptly went back to shooting with the gimbal tilted up. This is pretty close to a 180º view.

Very nice. That arch in the clouds makes it for me.
Thanks Jameel - this many clouds at sunset seems out of place to me as I look back through my archive of drone shots. The line of clouds that makes up the arch is from thunderstorms on the east side of the Cascades behind me.

some nice clouds and a great foreground to boot. love the orange sky.
Thanks Beth - more to come from this sunset color show. This was one of those sunsets that just kept getting better as the colors advanced into reds and magenta.
