Mt St Helens sunset

Nice - late winter/early spring judging from the depth of the snowpack on top and the high snowline at the bottom. I like the pastels in the sunset colors and the moon looks surreal here.

Hey Jameel,

The image looks great. Love the pastel colors in it. The snow is a great contrast. The moon though is so distinct, it feels pasted in. The clouds in front should be covering it. If you had shot the moon at a longer focal length to get it to look right, maybe use an opaque mask to bring it in behind the clouds?

That is a very weird looking moon, no offense! I have just never seen that shape in the moon, and I agree with Jim, looks pasted in for some reason. Did you by chance paint the black shaded side out of it?

I did shoot the moon separately to get the details and blended in. The blend may need likely more work. The shape though is right - a partial moon.

Sorry, but I think you should just remove the moon and let the rest of the image stand on its own (maybe with most of the blue sky on top cropped out). It looks like it was just pasted in and the eye goes right to it. The rest of the image is very nice.

Jameel,

What a gorgeous image. I'll echo some of the others and would prefer without the moon as it's an outstanding image that needs NO propping up.

Beautiful!

Thanks for all the suggestions and the critique. The image is updated with the moon cloned out as well as the crop suggestion of removing some of the blue sky at the top.

Just spent a while looking for the described moon in this image....... I love the image, now I realise that my eyes are OK! The soft, almost muted colours give the shot a real atmosphere, with the snow providing great contrast and acting as a vibrant link between sky and foreground.
