new mavic 4

first flight with the mavic 4. managed a quick flight between storms.

morning edit since i ran out of time last night:
i purchased the only package available at adorama, which is the creator combo with the fancy controller. i had the fly more package on backorder, but decided to cancel that when the creator combo was ready to ship. just checked and they still have some available if anyone's itching to get one.

unboxing was a little odd. it comes in the standard dji box. inside the box is a shoulder bag with everything packed neatly inside the shoulder bag. the only extra bit of protection was a plastic bag around each item and two small pieces of foam between the drone body and two of the folded legs.

there weren't any differences in flying the mavic 3 and mavic 4. everything still works the same, just like the rest of the current dji drones and the few autel drones i've flown.

the main camera is a lot better than the mavic 3. i didn't get to test the telephoto lenses, panoramas or much else last night. i'll post some raw files and whatever else i can after my next flight.

thanks. this was the jpg. i thought i had raw + jpg selected, but only ended up with the jpg when i transferred.
Maybe you need the card in for the RAW to be saved. How much storage is in the drone body without a card? Its pretty minimal in the non-cinema Mavic 3 Pro.

i wanted to write this up a little more last night, but didn't get around to it before bedtime.

the mavic 4 pro comes with 64 gb internal storage, the creator combo that adorama sells has 512 gb of internal storage. i probably didn't tap the raw+jpg button the right way. i was in a hurry. i'll play with it more tonight since we have boring blue skies. i want to add some panos and raw files, with the different lenses.

Can you elaborate on why the M4 camera is better? tnx.
the shot i posted above is a single shot that's been cropped. it's been downsized for the web, but the full size is pretty big. i think i can get big prints out of this, i never felt like that with the mavic 3 unless i was shooting panos.

it has more megapixels. it has the same sensor size as the mavic 3, but noise wasn't too bad. i was able to push the image more in editing (jpg, haven't played with the raw yet) before the image fell apart. overall i had more detail and i think a little more dynamic range (again, only played with the jpg) out of the main camera than i was used to with the mavic 3.

the vertical shooting option is nice, it beats having to shoot a vertical pano.

i want to post a few raw files after my next flight. i still have the mavic 3 pro so i'll see if i can post a raw from each.

That's sweet! I am glad you got it out on a test flight. This is a cool first image. That's not a very easy shot, shooting into the sun like that? And this is just a jpg? I would say this is an improvement over the Mavic 3 Pro.

thanks. it doesn't look like i'm flying tonight. the storms have moved in and we've got at least 1 funnel cloud spotted.

i changed settings in the controller on the off chance it stops raining long enough to fly tonight. got it off metric and back to imperial, changed the rth height and max height. changed it from jpg to raw, again... added the histogram to the screen and changed from auto to manual exposure.

one new thing i noticed is you can open the legs in any order now.
