Nikon EN-EL15 Battery at end of it's Useful Life

One of my Nikon EN-EL15 batteries stopped working in the camera. My D850 gives me a bright red error that the battery life is a 4 and it won't work anymore.
It is a basic EN-EL15, not a "B" or a "C"

Anyone else ever run into this before?

I'm not sure how old the battery actually is. You might want to keep an eye on your batteries so they don't stop on you when your out shooting.

Just a public service announcement.

I have been noticing that the batteries for my Canon 5DMkIV are starting to show their age as well and are losing their charge quicker than they used to. Your camera and mine are roughly the same age and mine's 5 years old now.....

Hey Craig,

I don't use any of my my EN-EL15 on either the D850 or D810. They don't hold enough of a charge. I save those to use on my D610 and my D7100 IR cameras. That's what it was designed for.

A few of my older EN-EL15 batteries now hold less and less of a charge, and a couple I have tossed since they dont hold a charge. But then they are over 10 years old.

I have 5 EN-EL15B's and C's. As the original EN-EL15's have faded out I have replaced them with the latest version. That's why I have a couple of C's. Then when the day finally comes in a few years that I get a Z camera, I will already have some spare batteries.

So I would toss that EN-EL15 and replace it with a C, and not give another thought about it.

Oh, I forgot about your original question. I never got that fault.

And Gratz on your Z8!

I'm still debating the camera. I have a Z7 and not sure this is the upgrade that makes a difference for me.

What? The Z8 is like 1000 times the camera the Z7 is. Don't debate, just send me your Z7 so you won't be tempted anymore. :)

Want to buy it? I'll give a fair price, it's immaculate like all my stuff!
Thanks! I know yours would be a good deal. But the Z7 isn't an upgrade from the D850, it's one of the reasons why I never got any Z camera. But now the Z8? Finally Nikon has made an upgrade to the D850. So if I were to upgrade, the Z8 is what I would get. But I hane to wait, I need enough money saved up to also buy a set of lenses for it. I know they have an adapter, but I would prefer not to use one. I would want the Z Mount lenses. So... maybe in a couple of years I will upgrade.

Before you buy a new camera instead of a new battery, talk with the culprit. At least with my Z50 the batteries that declined first were the ones used to video. It looks like draining a battery regularly down to warning zone ages them a lot quicker than anything else. Those all night time lapse efforts are probably just as bad as the video work I did.

And you are correct about the native Z lenses. They are as much or more the reason to upgrade than the camera, so waiting until you get the kit you want makes sense.
