I took the North America + Pelican Nebulae using narrowband filters relatively recently and wanted to share it. Feedback is welcome!

Narrowband Image Frames:
8x360 seconds each of Hydrogen-Alpha, Oxygen-III, and Sulfur-II filters (2.4 hours total)
Calibrated with dark, bias, and flat frame stacks for each color

Equipment:
QSI-683 camera
MyT telescope mount
Takahashi FSQ-85 at 384 mm EFL

Software:
Pixinsight
Lightroom Classic

Thanks for looking,
Dan

Wow Dan!!! This is super amazing! I haven’t heard of this nebula before, but I will be paying attention now as it’s a super cool looking one.

There are some really amazing structures in space that we only see with the aid of optics. Great image.

Thanks all! Honored to be selected for the daily feature!

Do you have to find someplace with really dark skies to shoot something like this? Beautiful result.
Alan, thank you. I drive down to New Mexico or Arizona once or twice a year to capture some photos, but narrowband filters like the ones used here can allow folks to take astro images in light-polluted areas since typical light pollution wavelengths are mostly blocked by these filters. This doesn't work as well for galaxies, planets, and comets, but it's great for many nebula shots, provided that the atmospheric seeing and transparency is good (which is generally also a problem in my neighborhood). While I do have luck from my urban backyard sometimes, I really enjoy the trips southwest to get the best opportunities to take long exposures.

Dan,

Great to see you posting some of these absolutely wonderful images to the forum that those of us who know you locally have already gotten the pleasure to enjoy. This is a case of a tour-de-force of both capturing skill and post processing technique coming together for one jaw-dropping result. The color palette you have here (which is a tricky aspect of post processing of narrowband data) combined with the smoothness and low noise look really make this pop.

A fantastic area of the sky, captured and presented in a excellent image.
