My buddy Jim asked me to make a photo of his hiking boots that took him on some memorable treks over the years, but had come to the end of their useful life. He actually got emotional when speaking of these boots, as they were his best connection to some significant life moments he experienced while in them. So I placed them in front of our basement's wood stove and let the warm light from the fire illuminate them. Old and tired, but content and dignified!
