Palouse - exploring from the air

I spent 3 days in Palouse last week. I wanted to explore this area with a drone since the last time I was there was almost 8 years ago. It was a bit early in the season as there was a lot of brown fields.

With Steptoe closed spent a lot of time exploring the different side roads. Met up with @Aaron Cowan on Saturday evening. He knows the place like the back of his hand and we explored some areas I couldn't on my own as those roads needed a high clearance 4x4 and he had a truck. He also shared some areas ahead of my trip which was very helpful. More than 90% of my shots are from the drone this time around.

A few shots from Saturday. It was very cold in the morning when I headed out for sunrise (25F).

C&C welcome

This is from the ground based camera at sunrise.

Sweet - kind of like having a portable Steptoe :) I like the morning light in the first four shots. Things look a bit on the muddy side in the sunset shot in #5 judging by the reflections. How high up were you for shot #3?

I have been thinking about this place ever since I started flying a drone. I was wondering about what you were going to get this early in the season. Last time I was there was an early May trip which was too early for the endless rolling green hills. There were some green hills but mostly lots of tilling going on where the farmers could work without getting bogged down in the mud. I am holding out hope for a quick trip in June when there might be more green without the punishing summer heat in July and August.

Thanks Alan.

For #3 it was around 60m or so. The sunset shot was exposed for the sky and had to push the ground layer quite a bit. Shooting into the sun is a challenge with the drone sensor. Without PureRAW it was a loss.

I did find quite a few green fields. Will post some of the mid days shots later.

That's so cool that you got to meet with up with Aaron. It does look like it's a bit early in the season, but still these look very cool and you worked the lines and curves very nice.

Thanks Jim. It was certainly early in the season. However the patterns in the field are more pronounced this early and I had a fun time capturing that.

Jameel, great set! I especially like #3 and #4. I've been researching the drones a bit more. It was good meeting up with you and spending time with a fellow photog.

Thanks Aaron. I have processed more of my images and will be posting them over the next few days.

You may want to pull the trigger on the drone if you are going that route before the price goes up significantly because of the tarriffs.
