Plaza Blanca

Plaza Blanca, near Abiquiu, NM, has intriguing geologic formations that became a favorite place for Georgia O'Keefe, where she made several paintings. Shirley MacLaine also became enamored with rock formations and used the location for spiritual meditation. It is a neat place. This image was taken at 720nm.

A very beautiful scene with a lot of interesting visual elements. Neat place.

I like the idea of B&W here but the contrasts almost seem a bit overwhelming with this processing and leave my eyes not quite sure where to focus in the scene. If this were my capture I would try to dial back the contrasts other than on the formations in the scene and the foreground chain fruit cholla. That might give you more of a feeling for the depth of the landscape behind the up front formations.

Very cool Doug! I have driven by there many times, but not sure I recall the Plaza Blanca. I will need to do a bit more research on it, as this is one super cool looking area.

I certainly like this, but I think Alan's suggestion is valid. If you do a rework on this, I would sure love to see that.
