Prairie Smoke, Calypsos

Prairie Smoke, Purple Avens (Geum triflorum) found around the Green River Lakes, WY area.

And, closer to home, Calypso orchids are just starting to show. Spotted coral root orchids have been flowering strongly for a week now, but not up higher where this Calypso was. the larger patches of them weren't anywhere close to blooming yet.

Very nice macro shots. I like the backlighting on the Purple Avens highlighting the fuzzy stems and not quite opened flowers. Delightful details on the Calypso orchids.

The orchids like shady areas, so I always hope for some penetrating light that doesn't wash it out. The avens were almost all in full sun, so it took a while to find some in shade but catching reflected light.
