A couple of shots of a Purple Sandpiper, Calidris maritima. This was a new lifer for me, taking my lifer total to 1365, of which I have photographed 1198.

Wow! Now that's a lot of birds! I think I must be at about 20 birds? I haven't thought about it, and it sounds sad, but I don't get to see too many birds, especially in SoCal Where all we have it seems is Seagulls, Pelicans and Crows....

Very nice captures Kevin. I don't see any purple though, how did it get that name I wonder?

Oh.... so do you have a goal like you want to see 1400? 1500? And what's you goal as for the number you want to have captured?

Thank you Alan, yes it's a stout looking bird with short legs which is one of it's identifying features

Thank you Jim. These birds are in Winter plumage, but they do get a purple sheen in their breeding plumage. I'm sure if you wrote down what you've actually seen you'd be surprised at the number. I'm lucky in that I've visited a lot of countries around the world, which helps with the numbers. As there are over 10,000 different bird species, then I've still got a lot to go at before I shuffle off this mortal coil. I don't have any real goal, but would like to photograph more British birds
