Road into Valley of Fire

Driving into the Valley of Fire for the first time was a mind blowing experience. in 2007 we were driving back to Denver from visiting relatives in Los Angeles, we saw a sign not too far north of Las Vegas pointing to a road to Valley of Fire. we had never heard of this place and decided to drive in to check it out. It is truely an amazing place, with multicolored rock formations, arches and petroglyphs. It was mind blowing!!! Below is a 2 frame landscape panorama taken near the main entrance to the park, that only gives a hint of what was to come!

Nice - the fun part comes once you drop down into the Valley itself. VoF is a favorite place to shoot for quite a number of us on this forum.

Mind blowing is a good way to put it. It was quite fun to drive in a car during my first visit, and even moreso on a motorcycle during my most recent visit!

Very cool Larry! VoF is a great place for road shots. My favorite spot is about a mile before the entrance as the road gets super curvy back and forth, almost like a snake.

I have probably been there about 40 times. My daughter for a while lived in Las Vegas, and I would visit her several times a month and I was out there almost every other weekend for the sunset. I was always amazed at how Las Vegas had so many people, and such beautiful place existed 45 minutes away and almost no one was there.

Though regarding people, the thing that intrigued me and was fun to watch would be the people that would drive out there in Limo's to get married at the Arch out there. Valley of Fire finally put it off limits to climb up and stand in front of the arch, so that put a damper on that. But it was interesting to be photographing at the Arch and watch several cars and vans drive up, all these elegantly dressed people climb up to the arch (it was really easy with a small 10 foot incline. And then 45 minutes later they were gone. :)

Thanks Alan, you are right the fun part is down in the valley. I need to spend more time there, as I feel I have not explored the valley very much! ;)

Wow Michael it sounds like exploding VoF on a motorcycle would be a real kick. Thanks for sharing your experiences in the park! ;)

Thanks Jim for the nice narative about VoF. There was a wedding going on while we were there and it was strange seeing all the fancy clothes in a primitive setting! :)
