Rock Art in the Maze

The Maze in Canyonlands is a relatively remote piece of landscape that contains some interesting prehistoric rock panels. I visited the Maze with a couple of other archaeologists in the summer of 1975 to catalog some of the examples we had seen reports on. These are a couple of those panels that were more photogenic than others. There were some nice ones that had pretty harsh light as of when we trekked in to their location so I didn't take images with my own camera. We did shoot everything with the Univ. of Utah cameras of course. As of the time we visited these were in very good condition.

This last one struck me for the level of detail in the figure depicted.

C&C always welcome.

Alan, you had a neat job. I really like these, The Maze is one place I have decided not to attempt on my own based on the descriptions.

These are some very good panels. I hope they still look the same today.
It would be nice if that was true but that's why we went in to catalog and photograph them. Those notes and images are on file at the Utah Museum of Natural History. :)

Very well captured and, thankfully, safely recorded. #2 looks like prehistoric GPS directions; cross stream, cross river, cross canyon, arrive at destination Holy Man (imagination gone wild) ;).

Very cool job you had, Alan. And some very cool shots here!
Thanks - had is the keyword for my job as a field archaeologist. Funding for Middle East excavations fell apart in 1979 and I made the mistake of being good with computers when there was high demand for people who were good with computers.

Definitely working overtime on the imagination side Mike - how much coffee have you had this morning? :)
