Just 5 hours earlier my tent was covered in hail and the ground was covered in an inch of it, so much so that it looked like snow, so I made a snow man. But it melted fast and by the time the stars came out, there was no sign left from that sudden and unexpected storm.

This is up at Ice Lake Basin in SW Colorado, a strenuous hike of 4.5 or 6.5 miles depending on your route. My tent had gotten bent over the sideways from the wind of the storm that brought in the hail, it was all I could do to keep it semi upright and my rain fly from flying off. It was 45 mins of man versus nature it seemed. Now the night was so much more peaceful, it was calm and quiet, when I finally went to sleep it was relaxing.

There was a full moon out, I already posted a shot of it rising. About 45 mins after rising it got covered by a cloud layer that seemed to determined to keep pace with the moon. For much of the night it blocked any direct line from it, but as you see in this photo it's ambient light really lit up the ground still, and any direct light as seen in the back left of this image was as bright as day pretty much.

I don't often include tents or objects, but my tent was up and considering what it had survived earlier, I figured it deserved to be the star (or try) of a photo or two. :)

All comments are welcome, this is a single shot.

Looks quite tranquil in this image compared to your description of the thunderstorm. Nice to know your tent can hold up to something like that.

Nice image and second Alan's sentiments - feels quite peaceful. The inclusion of the tent feels appropriate.

Thanks for the story. I quite like the tent in this one, esp. since it is sitting alone in the wilderness. Did you have the place to yourself?
