Salvage Week - 05/06/2024

This week I have worked on these three Painted Trillium plants from the Adirondack Mountains of NY. You can see lots of distracting elements on the forest floor. First, I used the Object Selection tool to select the plants and then used inverse selection to choose the background I then used the Field Blur tool to make a nice bokeh. The next step was to darken the background a bit to further emphasize the trillium and finally cropped it a bit to make a better composition.

That is a fantastic salvage Doug. Nice rework.

My salvage job is a wide light range shot at Zion NP from 2015 with a towering White Throne as a backdrop. Not a shot that had a lot of promise at the time but I squeezed it off anyway.

A number of edits later using Lightroom, DxO PhotoLab 7 followed by more work in LR and Photoshop:

As long as you keep the highlights in check
It’s amazing how much data can be recovered from the shadows these days. It would have turned to mush back in the day.
