San Diego Zoo - Koalas

I went down to the San Diego Zoo on Monday. It had been years since I went down there, but I am thinking it won't be years until I get back there again. There is so much to see there.

As I looped around the Zoo, one of the first stops on the path I took was by the Koalas. They had several but most were sleeping, but fortunately not this guy.

I was capturing a video of the Zoo while there, so all of my photos there were captured 1 handed. I would switch my iPhone that was on the DJI Osmo SE gimbal to my left hand and then pick up my camera with my right hand. I would adjust the zoom with my right hand to the focal length I wanted, and then raise it up to my eye and shoot. It worked out remarkedly well. I had the Nikon Z8 with the Tamron 50-400mm. That lens is super sharp, and gave me the range I needed. The lens is not super light, but it's also not super heavy. It's about a lb less then the Nikon 100-400mm if I recall correctly for reference.

The Horizontal image is almost 400mm and the 2 vertical are closer to 200mm for reference. Excellent detail and sharpness from the Tamron 50-400mm.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

PS. All of these are the same Koala, just different angles

The koala looks to be half asleep while eating. You one arm wallpaper hanger approach seems to have worked quite well :)

Last time I visited that zoo was in the 1950's....

Thanks Alan! A 1950 visit? Your parents took you as a newborn? :)

New rule, no koala's as examples of lens performance. This guy is way too cute for any response but "awh"

Fyi, Alan and Jim you both qualify as kids.👻

Ha ha, so true, I guess the cute factor would win over the sharpness factor every time.

It's weird that I am the spring chicken in our group. :)
