Between Work and Life, I finally had the chance for clear nights and a clear calendar!! During the June 2024 new moon I spent 3 nights at one of my favorite dark sky sites in Central Oregon. It is a B1/B2 area and has a great horizon. I took the chance to shoot a target pretty low on the southern horizon. It is not a target I can get from home.

Just in time for that trip, I purchased the Askar C1 filters - HaOiii and OiiiSii. They are available in my price range and have proved to be good, but of course, not like other high-end versions. In the end result, there are halos, as one might expect. Some can be dealt with while others must be lived with!!

Hey Andy!

I am glad you got some time away to image. I had some clear skies but had to drive from Colorado to California, and I just spent all day yesterday photographing a wedding.

I really like what you got here, and I like the color separation. I appreciate your thoughts on the Askar filters as I have seen them advertised and wondered how well they performed.

Hi Jim,
So far I really like the Askar C1 filters. I was surprised by how much O3 was revealed by the O3S2 filter. I have another project going in which I will combine the results from each filter. I hope to make time for that before too long. One thing I am amazed at ----- These filters actually work in my C11 Rasa. There is not a big problem with fringing etc. A very great deal for these inexpensive filters!

I think the image above really should be shot even wider than I am able to. I actually have a Rokinon 135mm but have not been able to get it to focus on stars at or closer to infinity. I'm not sure what I am going to do with it.

Andy,

Cool to see results from those filters, I had just heard of them myself as I start to put my tiny travel OSC astro rig together. I guess there are also even narrower versions of these, obviously for more money. Looking at your results it would seem the C1s are quite good though. I hope to see you post more using these filters soon.
