Shore Acres State Park ( Part 2 - The Rocks )

Shore Acres State Park contains 40 million year old sedimentary sea cliffs which are tilted at 45 degree angles. Forces from the Cascadia Subduction Zone lifted these ancient ocean-floor layers, while ocean waves carve the rock into sharp reefs, wave-cut benches, and round cannonball-like sandstone concretions. A target rich environment for any photographer, I like the area just north of the parking area best.

Plenty of good subjects both in direct light and overcast conditions.

Don't forget to bring your macro lens - the Gardens are coming in part 3!

I have always referred to this place as the Oregon Coast's version of the Bisti with the almost wing like shapes. Nice shots of the carnage the big waves can cause.

When the big waves come in they completely swamp these formations.

@AlanLichty has mentioned this park to me after I shared images of Yehliu Geopark in Taiwan. I see what he means now. Your images certainly do it justice, Michael.
Thanks Michael. Yeah, that Lichty guy, he talks a lot ...

Cape Kiwanda could have been our version of the Bisti if visitors hadn't destroyed parts of it ...

😁 Guilty as charged. The Sunset Bay State Park campground was my favorite place to stay when I was still working because there is no cellular coverage at all there and no one could reach me.
