Slickrock Trail, Canyonlands

I got this panorama the first year my wife and I retired after 35 years of teaching. We had been waiting until then to get down to southern Utah in the fall and finally made it for a month long trip in our van. We arrived at the Needles district in the afternoon and were lucky to find a campsite, then hustled over to this easy loop trail for an evening walk. We only saw one other couple heading out as we were going in. I love this picture, remembering the feeling of freedom and peace that we felt, our new lives spreading out before us like the open desert.

That feeling of solitude is something that is increasingly more difficult to find anymore. That area is a great place to be if you do find it....

Hey Jim,

That's a nice pano of that area. And that's a nice remembrance of your chapter of your life. And Utah can be an area where solitude can still be found, I know I enjoy it too when I find it.

Nice image Jim. I remember the Slickrock Trail being a mecca for mountain bikers. In 1990 I finally got there with a friend and rode the entire route. I don't think it was a hiking area, and it was a lot of up and down over smooth rocks and obstacles of all sorts. We were going to camp that night, but the ride kicked our asses and we checked into a motel.

Jeffrey, you must be referring to the other Sickrock trail near Moab (which I really want to mt. bike someday). This one is hiker only in Canyonlands NP.
