Smoke on the Water Part 2

This is another panorama shot from a couple of nights ago with a smoky sunset. Worth noting - there are no clouds in this scene except for the smoke which is lurking at an altitude above the more clear air below. 4 panels at 70mm with minimal cropping. Click through for a more detailed view.

And fire in the sky ...
I like the little strip of highlights on the water!
Thanks Michael - that song was playing in my head when I came up with the thread title :) The lower strip of water is the Columbia and the farther one is Sturgeon Lake. I wish the river was easier to see but this was from just under 400' above the ground and that is as high as I am allowed to go.

That is a lot of smoke. At least you got a nice color show. Like the way the setting sun is centered on this image
Thanks Jameel - fortunately the really heavy smoke layer high up continued off to the west although we did still end up with an air quality alert. I was hoping the smoke would lead to some colors but I didn't anticipate the smoke layering like this.

That's so interesting that there are no clouds! You could have fooled me.

I like this.
Thanks Jim - there is a lot of smoke on the east side of the Cascades and we were lucky to avoid it for so long. Happily the winds have shifted back and its all gone from this side of the mountains for now.

Thanks Rick - yeah the sun is almost exactly in the center of the frame now that I stop to look at it again. I probably should have added one more panel on one the sides.

When I shoot with a drone looking out the horizon like this I often just spin in place taking almost 360º sequences so I likely have more of this one. I was mostly looking at the skies in this case with the smoke layer since it's actually the case that there are no clouds - just a thick layer of smoke and I wanted to get some shots of it and the colors.
