Snow Socks vs Snow Chains/Cables for tires

I guess I have had my head stuck in a snow bank for too long? I just came across these things called Snow Socks for tires. Of course they state they are better then snow chains, but I don't know. I have snow cables for my tires now, but being as I have 4x4 I really haven't had to use them in years.

So I am curious if anyone has any experience with them?

Never heard of them and since snow is something I avoid, I have never needed them.

I have never used the socks but I do drive with winter rated traction tires on both of our cars ( not studded!). I have chains but would only use them in extreme conditions. I have driven on ice with the traction tires and they work quite well.

I actually have two sets of wheels for each vehicle and swap them in late fall and spring.

Have you heard of Snow Socks before or know if they work? It's totally new to me.

I have heard of them but haven’t seen anything suggesting they work better than chains or winter rated traction tires.

I have used snow chains for ages, it's proven, low cost, other than a bit messy to put on, mostly it's part of winter driving life.

I do remmeber seening the snow socks in action once in Yosemite National Park; it worked; later one I watched some Youtube reviews, my understanding is: the snow socks work well on FULLY snow-covered road, the socks get shreded on asphalts roads due to the materials.

My primitive understanding is the snow socks are designed for low clearence cars, easy to put on & off; but the socks get torn on rough road surface.

Thanks for the added info Oliver. The Snow Socks may be something I just get for my daughter to have in an emergency on her mini-van since she is in Colorado and they do get the occasional blizzard. It's not full time snow, so they could come in handy if she has to pick up the kids from school and it happens to be in a bad snow storm.

Definitely, compare to the chains, the snow socks are easier to put on without breaking sweat, it's also a lot lighter, doesn't take up much space in the trunk; just follow the instruction & go slow.

Yeah, space is often at a premium for her since she has 6 kids.
