Sort of a landscape

Not sure how to categorize these based on the subforms here. My first flight with the Mavic 4 Pro. It's more of a beast than the M3 and seems quieter and more stable. Some new controls are fun to use, though I didn't use them here. The overcast light was not a challenge for the DR testing, so there is more to do. But I had fun, and RTH worked! The pictures look to be noticeably sharper and cleaner and the files are about 30MB when opened from RAW.

I am jealous of your new flying camera but that's not likely a surprise. I like the level of detail in both of these images. Would I be correct in guessing that both are using the 24mm camera/sensor?

Have you played with images from the two telephoto lenses yet and did either of the other two cameras yield captures that would meet your needs?

I am also jealous of your clouds and rainy conditions

Jealous of my clouds? Don't you live in Washington State? You have real water there. This is just our summer morning gloomy fog layer that burns off every day by noon to reveal another boring sunny day while our gardens shrivel from drought.

I have not played with the other lenses yet. I should try them though I likely will not put them to much use. The M4P has a zoom feature of the big lens which is fun to look at but I believe it is a digital zoom, so I'm losing good data by using it. And it will rotate the gimbal 90 degrees to provide a portrait orientation, which is totally new and cool. I need to shoot a sun on the horizon in some low light to really test this thing. That has always been a real challenge for drone cameras. Hoping I won't still get the 'blob' effect.....

During our dry season in July and August we can sometimes go for weeks without seeing even a hint of a cloud. Out along the coast there is a morning marine layer similar to what you describe but the coastal mountains stop that from making it as far inland as Portland/Vancouver.

I always have used the individual tele lenses directly and never the zoom function. On the M3P you could turn off Explore Mode which would disable the digital zoom and allow direct selection of the cameras. I set up one of the buttons on the back of my remote to switch between the 24mm, 70mm, and 166mm cameras. The portrait orientation feature would be really handy for shooting waterfalls in the Gorge.

congrats on the new drone. i haven't been able to fly mine much since i got it due to weather and work. i finally got nd filters for it this week. there's an option to extend the gimbal tilt in portrait mode, if you haven't found it yet. i did a few portrait panos, and the free mode is great.

the only thing i can't figure out is how to get the drone to stop asking if i want to switch to internal memory on every start up.

Very cool Jeffrey! Thanks for sharing the results. I really should upgrade my Mini 2 to a real drone one of these days.
