In 2018 I went to the Middle East for the first time. It was a two-week trip with my younger sister who speaks Arabic. Starting in Amman in the north, we worked our way south, spending a few nights in Petra and then volunteering for a week for the Bedouins that run tours in Wadi Rum desert. It was unforgettable! Not always positive, but certainly eye-opening. Before going we were slightly nervous about being two girls traveling by ourselves over there, but we found ourselves in good hands the whole time and we ended up admitting that we actually felt safer in Jordan than in any Western city. Because my sister spoke the language, we ended up staying with Bedouins in small villages from the time we left Amman, and this provided a more intimate experience getting to know the locals and their culture. It was awesome!
I'm gonna start by posting a few street scenes from Amman, taken in a drive-by fashion from the back of an Uber. I'm trying to get a photo book done for my sister in time for her birthday less than 2 weeks away.
It was fun to try some street/urban photography in an exotic city where everything was new to me.
C&C welcome!
