Sun & Flowers in the Snowy Range

Escaping from the heat (well, only by about 5 degrees), my dog & I went for a hike in Wyoming's Snowy Range and caught some good wildflowers. Columbines were abundant, but shared the landscape with others.

Avalanche lily (Erythronium grandiflorum). Most were past, but there were some in the shade that were still quite happy.

Parry's primrose (Primula parryi). Down by the water, where it was quite buggy.

Just for reference, this is the area where I was - the Snowy Range Diamond is the tallest of the rock faces

Sweet - there really is snow still up there. I love the white columbines and the avalanche lily. How were the mosquitos?
Mozzies were not an issue. It wasn't all that early, but it was pretty gusty the night before, so maybe they got blown away? And I've been buzzed by them when it's just starting to get light, so it wasn't a time of day issue. Oh, right, I'd sprayed my clothes with permethrin before the trip, so that was probably it. I saw a story about how DEET is a signal to them that there's a blood feast underneath.........
