Sunset Optimism

I spotted some conditions last night that portended a neat sunset and sent my drone up in the air with high hopes. We had a few high clouds and light wildfire smoke which could have made for a colorful show and this was the view when I got up to my desired altitude. Sadly this was also the extent of the show and once the sun ducked below the cloud right at the horizon a minute or so later all that was left was a bit of a glow down near the horizon.

I like the golden glow! I used to skip the golden glow portion of a sunset while waiting for the magenta show to begin. But I remember early on learning that sometimes the magenta and reds just never show up, so I had better grab the gold while I can.

So I do like this gold, even if this is all you got.

Thanks Jim - I have learned the same lesson and especially when dealing with sunsets anywhere near where the marine layer can interrupt things. While I hate breathing wildfire smoke it can offer up conditions for some amazing sunset colors and it looks like we are going to be potentially experiencing that for a while right now.

Nice light, not what you were expecting, but the subtle colors with the cloud textures makes for a nice image. I saw something similar but didn't inspire me to launch the drone.

Thanks Jameel - You weren't wrong to pass on this one. I ended up landing with my battery at 85% and it wasn't at 100% when I launched.
