Teaser Image of Sh2-284

So I've told myself to NEVER do this again, where I process some intermediate data, and then come back later with a full data set and can not duplicate what I got the 1st time. But @Comet Hunter (Ed's) inspirational effort on this target put it on my radar, and I decided to try some really long 15 min subs on it. I hope to get a lot more data, as the Oiii and Sii signals are very weak, but I was amazed at what just 1 hour (4 subs) of Hα data brought out on it. The generalized Hyperbolic Stretch tool in PixInsight is great once you finally get the hang of it.

Here is Sh2-284, just the Hα data, 1 hour's worth, processed with usual tools in PI.

Hopefully, I can make a compelling color image of this once I have enough integration time...

Hey Mike, I finally got a chance to see this. Great job on posting the Ha data. I look forward to the final result, but this is also really great to see the detail. You really got a lot of sharp edges, and then some wispy detail of the Ha. I am glad you posted this.

Thanks Jim - it is sometimes amazing what the Hα layer by itself reveals. I will have to try not to lose this detail when I combine the other much weaker channels. We will see how it goes, but perhaps a standalone Hα image worst case. I have one more night's worth of data on this since I posted it, but hoping for more.

I also have my Sh2-261 image very close to posting I think. We will see if I want to tweak it any more.
